Support

Going through a really hard time? This page cannot help you in an emergency, and your messages are not read around the clock. Call your local emergency number (112 in the European Union, 911 in North America, 999 in the UK) or a helpline. In France: 3114 (free, 24/7) or, in immediate danger, 15 or 112. All helplines.

A question about the app, a technical issue, an idea? Write to us: every message is read by a person on the team.

Write to us

Write to contact.depression@devolim.fr, or from the app: Settings, Help and info, “Write to the team” (Réglages, Aide et infos, « Écrire à l'équipe »). We reply as soon as we can. For a technical problem, tell us your phone model, the system version and, if possible, include a screenshot. There is no need to give us any details about your health: we do not need them to help you.

You can also send us a suggestion or report a bug from the app, in Settings, “Suggestions and bugs” (« Suggestions et bugs »). These messages contain neither your name nor your email address: we cannot reply to them, and they are automatically deleted 12 months after they are sent (see the privacy policy).

Frequently asked questions

What is Depression?

A gentle app to help you take care of yourself day to day, on days when your mood is low: log your mood, check in with a recognised questionnaire, breathe, write, follow a path of activities at your own pace, prepare a safety plan, and talk to Kolo, a support AI. Crisis help is always one tap away, thanks to the red lifebuoy.

Is the app available in English?

Not yet: the app is currently in French only. This website is in English to help you understand what the app does and how it handles your data.

Does the app replace a doctor or a psychologist?

No. Depression offers support, but does not replace a doctor, a psychologist, a psychiatrist or any treatment you are receiving. It is not a medical device and it does not make any diagnosis. It can be there for you between appointments, or while you wait for one. See the health disclaimer.

Is the app free?

The app is free to download. Crisis help (the lifebuoy, helplines, trusted contacts, safety plan), the crisis exercises, the PHQ-9 questionnaire and logging your mood stay available with no subscription, as do other features shown in the app. An optional Premium subscription unlocks the rest of the app. What it includes, its price and its terms are shown in the app and by the App Store or Google Play before any purchase.

What is the PHQ-9 questionnaire?

Nine validated questions about the last two weeks, used by professionals to assess the intensity of depressive symptoms. It is optional, your answers stay on your phone, and you can export your results as a PDF for your doctor. It is not a diagnosis: it is a reference point, for you, and something to talk about if you want to.

Who is Kolo? Does anyone read my messages?

Kolo is a support AI: not a person, not a therapist, not a doctor, and it can make mistakes. Nobody on the team reads your conversations. To reply to you, with your consent, your messages go through our server in Europe, then through OpenAI's AI service, also in Europe. Our server does not keep your messages; OpenAI may keep them for up to 30 days to detect abuse, then deletes them, and does not use them to train its models. Your conversations stay encrypted on your phone. You can withdraw your consent at any time.

What happens if I tell Kolo I am feeling really bad?

If you are in danger or having dark thoughts, write it anyway: when the app or the server detects distress, the reply shows help and numbers to call, even without a subscription. This detection is imperfect, and Kolo does not alert anyone and does not replace a helpline: if you are in danger, call your local emergency number (112 in the European Union, 911 in North America, 999 in the UK) or a helpline. In France: 3114 (free, 24/7), 15 or 112.

Is my data private?

Yes. No account, no ads, no selling of your data. What you write and log (moods, questionnaire, journal, safety plan, contacts, medication, conversations) stays encrypted on your phone: we have no access to it. Usage statistics are off by default, and never contain what you write. What leaves your phone: a few technical items (a technical identifier, crash reports, subscription status), your messages to Kolo if you use it, the suggestions and reports you choose to send, and statistics if you accept them. The details are in the privacy policy.

How do I lock the app?

In Settings, Privacy (Réglages, Confidentialité), turn on the lock: a passcode protects what you write, with Face ID or your fingerprint if you wish. The app locks every time you open it and when you come back after a while elsewhere. Even when locked, it lets you call a helpline in one tap. Nobody can recover your passcode, not even us: write it down somewhere safe.

I have changed phones: how do I get my data and Premium back?

For Premium: install the app with the same Apple or Google account, then tap “Restore my purchases” (« Restaurer mes achats »), in Settings under Subscription (Abonnement), or below the offers. For your data: it is stored only on your old phone. On Android, it is not transferred; on iPhone, it only moves across with an encrypted backup of the device or a direct transfer to the new iPhone. Before changing phones, remember to export your data (Settings, Privacy).

Reminders are not arriving: what can I do?

Check that notifications for the app are allowed in your phone's settings (the app lets you know if they are turned off and offers to open the settings), and that battery saver or a focus mode is not blocking them. On Android, allow exact alarms so that medication reminders arrive on time. Reminders are only a memory aid: do not rely on them alone for important medication.

Kolo is not replying: why?

Kolo needs an internet connection. It may also be temporarily unavailable (maintenance, an outage at one of our providers), or you may have reached the daily message limit shown in the app. Your message is not lost: the app keeps it so you can try again. When distress is detected, the reply shows help and helplines, even if the daily limit has been reached. If you are in danger, don't wait for Kolo: call your local emergency number or a helpline.

How do I report a reply from Kolo?

Press and hold the reply, then tap “Report this reply” (« Signaler cette réponse »). We receive the reported reply and the reason you chose, never your own messages. You can also write to us.

How do I turn off statistics?

They are off by default. If you turned them on, turn them off in Settings, Privacy: collection stops and the statistics identifier is erased from your phone.

Does the app work outside France?

The app is designed first and foremost for France. The helpline numbers shown depend on the country inferred from your phone's settings: outside France, it shows 112 and an international directory of helplines (findahelpline.com). Our Urgent help page also lists helplines in several countries.

What is the minimum age?

16. If you are under 16 and things are not okay, talk to a trusted adult or your doctor, or call a helpline (see Urgent help).

Manage or cancel a subscription

The subscription is managed from your Apple or Google account, not from the app. Uninstalling the app does not cancel it.

The subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period already paid for: you keep Premium until then. For a refund, go through reportaproblem.apple.com or Google Play support: the store takes the payment and handles refunds. The full terms are in the terms of use and sale.

Export or delete my data

Depression does not use accounts, so there is no account to delete.

  • Export: Settings, Privacy, “Export my data” (« Exporter mes données »). You get a readable file (JSON). It is not encrypted: keep it somewhere safe.
  • Erase everything: Settings, Privacy, “Erase everything” (« Tout effacer »). Everything on your phone is deleted, along with, if you are connected to the internet, what our servers keep under your anonymous identifier (message counters, subscription status, suggestions and reports sent) and the statistics identifier. This cannot be undone. Your subscription, however, stays linked to your Apple or Google account. Without a connection, the deletion on our servers is retried automatically every time you open the app, until it succeeds. What remains, with no content at all, is detailed in the privacy policy.
  • Uninstalling the app also deletes the data on your phone. The data on our servers is then erased on its own by the deadline set out in the privacy policy, except the technical identifier itself, which contains nothing about you.

For any other request about your data, write to contact.depression@devolim.fr. As we do not know who you are, the tools in the app are the safest and quickest way.

Report a problem

A mistake in a text, a helpline number that no longer works, a reply from Kolo that seems wrong or inappropriate, content that makes you feel uncomfortable? Write to us and tell us which screen it is on: we check and fix things as quickly as possible. An incorrect helpline number is dealt with as a priority.
